In 2233, the Federation starship USS Kelvin is investigating a storm in space when a Romulan ship, the Narada, emerges from within it and attacks the Kelvin. Narada‘s captain, Nero, demands to meet with Captain Robau of the Kelvin. Aboard the Narada, Robau is questioned by Nero. When Robau professes no knowledge of the Vulcan Ambassador Spock and states the current stardate, Nero kills him and orders the Kelvin’s destruction. Acting Captain George Kirk orders the ship evacuated onto shuttlecrafts, including his pregnant wife Winona, who is in labor. Kirk sacrifices himself to steer the Kelvin on a collision course into the Narada, and Winona agrees with George to name their son James moments before the ships collide….

Chris Pine was an outstanding choice for Kirk, he kept the best parts of the character without the overacting of Shatner. J.J Abrams and his crew did a great job choosing the actors to play in the movie, every choice can pass as a earlier version of the crew we remember from the original movies, but they did an outstanding job in separating this movie from all the others, and giving themselves a clean slate to work on, even if they kept some things the same when everything would have changed. Movie was on the top of my list to rent when it was released on Blockbuster, but it did stay at the house and get watched a dozen times before we returned it. Working at DISH network I spend a lot of time looking through our specials, and I came across one for DISH subscribers can qualify for 3 months free of blockbuster by mail.
